What: Masters of Studio Glass: Joel Philip Myers and Steven I. Weinberg

Details: In celebration of a major to the museum from the family of Ben W. Heineman Sr., this exhibition showcases the contemporary art and careers of two American artists working in glass, Joel Philip Myers (born 1934) and Steven I. Weinberg (born 1954). According to the museum, “Myers is known for his blown sculptural vessels that explore color, while Weinberg studies optical illusion and reflection in his massive cast sculptures of colorless lead glass.”

What: Water: H2O = Life

Where: American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th St., Manhattan

When: Nov. 3, 2007-Mar. 25, 2008

Details: This new exhibition displays a look at one of Earth’s most important substances, and the environmental issues that we face to preserve its abundance and quality. Sponsored by the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration, this is the first step for this exhibition, which will afterwards travel around the world until 2011. The story of water will be analyzed from scientific, cultural and environmental points of view, while also celebrating its beauty and the inspiration it has provided to humans.  For more details, visit www.amnh.org.

What: 37th Annual Waterfowl Festival

Where: Easton, Md.

When: Nov. 9-11 (Preview evening, Nov. 8)

Details: The organizers of this festival claim it is of equal interest to both hunters and art enthusiasts. Twelve venues in Easton feature wildlife paintings, sculpture, carvings and photos, and collectible duck decoys, sporting gear and travel adventures also are for sale. A wine-tasting pavilion is part of the fun, as is the staging of the World Duck-calling Championships.

What: Silversmiths to the Nation: Thomas Fletcher and Sidney Gardiner, 1808-1842

Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Ave., Manhattan

When: Nov. 20, 2007-May 4, 2008

Details: Fletcher and Gardiner set up a silversmithing enterprise in Boston in 1808 but relocated to Philadelphia three years later. Right from the beginning, their work was considered to be a polish above the rest, and this exhibition chronicles their story through finished pieces, rare pre-work drawings and relevant memorabilia that mirrors the rise in the United States’ economic and cultural development.  For more details, visit www.metmuseum.org.
