Pros: Interior design, power, braking

Cons: Difficult entry/exit, torque steer, handling, steering response

The redesigned ’08 Malibu attempts to bring a new look of performance and luxury to Chevy, but, unfortunately, falls short in some key areas.

First and foremost, is the severe torque steer, which, if the driver is not totally focused on the task at hand with a firm grip on the wheel, could result in control loss during hard acceleration. Handling and steering response are also negatively affected by poor suspension design.

Power is plentiful, but at times very difficult to control, again, due to the massive torque steer. Strong brakes impress with their power and consistency.

The interior’s design looks modern and elegant, but the aggressive roof line and elevated door sill make entry/exit awkward.

Overall, the new Malibu looks great, but needs work in some areas.
